Here’s a little phrase to meditate on. Think about it:
How you do anything is how you do everything.
I don’t know where I first heard this but it’s been one of those coaching questions that have been transformative for both me and for others I have shared it with. I have found it to be a great phrase to journal on. Or when you find yourself in a mess of your own doing. When you apply this question to even the littlest thing, you may end up with a huge self-discovery. I know it did for me.
We all have a style of doing things. There is no right or wrong, really…. unless you find yourself continually making the same mistakes over and over. I know that for myself, the habit I have of getting super-excited about new things is both a blessing and a curse. I can easily jump from one business idea to the next and from one hobby to another, leaving them incomplete and forgotten. I can be a little sloppy when I get excited because I am so thrilled to be doing the thing that the details are well… ugh.
How I do anything is how I do everything…
Rushing though without follow through.
Great excitement followed by deep disappointment.
Frustration because I didn’t get things quite right, followed by abandoning the whole darn thing.
But my knowing my style has also made me appreciate my sense of adventure, my ability to try new things easily and to take great leaps into the unknown.
I can’t tell you how much I have been helped with this little phrase.
Try it for a week and let me know!
